Order to form Citizen Security Committee for each police station

FE REPORT
The Police Headquarters has directed the superintendents of police (SPs) of all districts and officers-in-charge (OCs) of all police stations to form Citizen Security Committee for each police station in a bid to restore normalcy in operation of the police and maintain law and order.
The primary goal of forming such committees is to increase public engagement in restoring law and order, according to a press release issued on Saturday.
To achieve this, the committees would prepare an action plan and carry out activities through monitoring and evaluation, the release stated.
Joint patrols would be organised by members of the law enforcement agencies and the committee to prevent violence, theft, robbery, and snatching within their jurisdiction. The committees would also work on resolving existing social conflicts, such as property damage or arson, through close personal contact and mediation.
The committees would regularly monitor and take prompt action to ensure safety and security of local residents, their property, public infrastructure, religious sites of minority communities, and the overall peace of the area, according to the statement.
They would also take appropriate measures to address issues like drug abuse and eve-teasing.
Furthermore, the committees would work to ease tensions and foster harmony among different religious and political groups in the area, it stated.
The size of the committee will be determined by the coordinators of the local Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Members of the body will include reputed lawyers or judges, retired police officers, armed forces officers, senior citizens, respectable local political leaders, presidents or secretaries of the organisations representing the local population, representatives from various local government institutions, human rights activists, women's rights activists, and NGO representatives.

The committee would also undertake activities to build public resistance against those who threaten safety of police officers, raise awareness to prevent any instigation that could disturb public order, and provide comprehensive support to police officers in taking legal actions.
