JHENIDAH, Nov 17 (UNB): A suspected cadre of an outlawed party was killed in an 'encounter' between his accomplices and police at Baniakanda village in Sadar Upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Hasan (35), of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (ML-Janajuddha) and son of Syed Ali of Jafalbari village in same upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team of Sadar thana raided a Banana orchard in the area at about 2:00 am while a gang of PBCP outlaws were holding a clandestine meeting there, police said.
Sensing presence of the police, the gang sprayed bullets at the law enforcers forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
"Hasan was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his cohorts managed to flee the scene," said a spot account of the predawn shootout.
