CHITTAGONG, Sept 18: More than five thousand vehicles are now plying on the city roads without proper registration.

According to sources, plying of such unregistered vehicles is going on unabated while the authorities concerned assigned with the task of monitoring and apprehending such breach of law, is not taking any effective measures.
Investigations revealed that out of the unregistered vehicles, 3,000 are motorcycles. These are plying inscribing 'Press', 'On test,' 'AFR', etc on the city roads while no application has reportedly been made to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for registration.
Concerned sources said, during last two years, at least 20 vehicles had been detained with arms and drugs on board. Apart from that many motorcycles without any numbers are allegedly being used by the terrorists in many crimes including snatching, killing, looting, etc.
According to CMP sources, it always launches campaign against the unregistered vehicles and vigorous campaign would be intensified shortly.
