A total of 306,088 students have been selected for seats from class one to nine at all public schools and private schools in metropolitan and district Sadar areas, report agencies.
A total of 98,205 students have been selected for the 108,716 seats available at 680 public schools. Another 207,883 students have the chance to fill the 1,007,673 seats available at private schools in metropolitan and district Sadar areas.
The public-private school lottery was held at the International Mother Language Institute on Tuesday. After a long digital process, the results were released in the afternoon.
Students can access their results through mobile phone SMS or on the admission website.
"In addition to the students selected in the initial lottery, the first and second waiting lists have been released. Everyone will get the results," said Mohammad Aziz Uddin, deputy director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education's Secondary Wing and member secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan Admission Committee.
"There are 79,502 applicants on the first waiting list for government schools and 101,156 for private schools. The second waiting list includes 58,558 applicants for public schools and 67,514 for private schools.
Those who were selected will be able to select their admission to public and private schools from Wednesday, December 18. The spots will remain open until December 23, Aziz said.
After that, the vacant spots will be filled with applicants from the first waiting list for three days and the second waiting list for two days, he added.
The results have been sent by SMS to the mobile phone numbers students used to register, according to the DSHE. They are also available on the admission website (https://gsa.teletalk.com.bd/).
The results of the lottery can be downloaded and printed from the website using the login IDs and passwords guardians used to sign in. Head teachers will also be able to download the results of the lottery for their schools using their IDs and passwords.
This year, students across Bangladesh had the opportunity to apply for school admissions online from November 12 to 30. In 18 days, a total of 983,539 students, from both government and private institutions applied for admission.
Nearly 635,072 students applied for admission to government schools, while 348,467 applied to private schools.
This time, there are a total of 1,116,389 vacant seats in 5,625 government and private schools.
According to the admission committee, as many as 635,072 people applied for 108,716 seats in 680 government schools. At least 964,850 applicants stated their preference for government schools.
Meanwhile, there are nearly 1,007,673 vacant seats in 4,945 private schools. However, only 348,467 students have applied for admission to them. As such, even after admissions are complete, seats in private schools will remain vacant.
Asked about the unfilled vacancies, Aziz said: "Students did not apply for all seats at government and private schools. Though many students applied for seats in government schools, there were relatively few applications for government-run schools at the upazila level. There were only 43 applicants for 105 seats at a government school in Hatia."
