Package for docs to stay in rural areas

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim informed the House Monday that the government has taken a decision to give stimulus package to physicians who will stay in rural areas for 2-3 years, reports BSS.
Making a statement under rule 300 of the Rules of Procedures, he said the ministry will give various facilities including promotion to physicians who will stay in rural areas over three year.
"The government is committed to ensure regular healthcare service for the rural people through upazila and union health complexes," Nasim said and urged the local lawmakers to monitor healthcare service in the rural areas.
Currently, over 650 physicians are giving healthcare service in village areas and recruitment of 6,521 physicians through Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) is under way. Physicians' crisis will be reduced after recruitment of doctors, the minister said.
He said the ministry will not tolerate any negligence of duty and absence from working places.
Meanwhile, the ministry took action against some physicians for negligence of duty and remaining absent from working places. The government took various steps to bring modern equipment for ensuring healthcare service to people at hospitals, Nasim said.
