Passenger train derails in Lalmonirhat, disrupting communication

LALMONIRHAT, June 5 (UNB): Three compartments of a passenger train derailed on Lalmonirhat-Burimari route Monday midnight, disrupting communication on the route.

Railway sources said the bogies of a Lalmonirhat-bound passenger train from Burimari veered off the track at Bhullarhat near Burimari rail crossing at 12 midnight.

Seven people were injured slightly as they hurriedly tried to come out of the derailed bogies. They were given first aid.

A rescue train from Lalmonirhat rushed to the spot at about 3.00 am and began salvage operation.

Railway official Golam Mostafa today (Tuesday) said that it might take the whole day to resume communication on the route as the rescue train could remove only one derailed bogy, out of three, till 11:30 am Tuesday. Four local trains got stranded on both sides of the place of accident.

Trains derailed twice on Lalmonirhat-Burimari route within a span of 30 hours.
