PDB to set up plants to generate 3,300 MW by 2010

The government has taken an initiative to build new power plants on an urgent basis to tackle the growing electricity shortage, reports BSS.
As part of the move, Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) has taken a massive initiative to set up power plants with production capacity of 3,300 megawatt by 2010 in addition to the existing plans in both public and private sectors. An urgent meeting was held at the PDB meeting room in the city today to review the progress of the plan, to be implemented under the supervision of the power division.
PM's Adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr Toufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, State Minister for Power Brig Gen (Retd) Mohammad Enamul Haq, Power Secretary M Abul Kalam Azad, PDB Chairman ASM Alamgir Kabir and senior officials concerned attended the meeting.
