Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Monday people have celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr more peacefully and safely this time, reports UNB.
No untoward incident like theft, mugging and robbery have occurred in the city except two or three incidents, the minister made the comments while talking to journalists at his office in the city on Monday.
Besides, city dwellers and people elsewhere enjoyed their Eid shopping until 2 O'clock safely as the law enforcement agencies performed their duties round the clock, said the minister.
"I personally maintained contacts with the highway DIG and the high officials of the law enforcement agencies concerned to ensure safe journeys for the homebound people," Asaduzzaman told journalists.
The minister added that the government has decided to increase manpower in law-enforcement agencies to provide better security to people and maintain the law and order situation across the country.
Meanwhile, he said, necessary steps have been taken to remove all kinds of corruption from his ministry.
Talking about Rajon murder in Sylhet, the minister said one murder accused, Kamrul, a Saudi expatriate, will be brought back home soon completing all the necessary formalities through the Foreign Ministry.
