MUNSHIGANJ, Aug 14 (UNB): A court here on Thursday sent the owner of the sunken launch 'Pinak-6', AB Siddique Kalu, to jail.
Munshiganj judicial magistrate Harun-ur-Rashid passed the order, when police produced Siddique Kalu before his court around 1pm.
Officer-in-charge of Lauhajang Police Station Tofazzal Hossain said the judge fixed Monday for hearing on the plea to take him on seven-day remand.
The hearing on the remand petition could not be held on Thursday as the judge had left the courtroom before Siddique was brought there, said court inspector Abdul Kuddus.
The overloaded launch, Pinak-6, with over 250 passengers on board from Kawrakandi sank in the Padma 800 yards off Mawaghat (jetty) on August 4 due to strong currents.
