Pinak-6 probe report to be published: Minister

September 17, 2014 00:00:00

The report of the committee formed by the government to investigate the Pinak-6 capsize will be made public within a couple of days, said Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Tuesday, reports UNB.

"The probe committee report on Pinak-6 capsize will be published on the website of the shipping ministry by one or two days," he said.

Shajahan was talking to reporters after handing over cheques for Tk 0.5 million as compensations from the government to the seven Bangladeshi crew members who were abducted by the Somali pirates on November 26, 2010.

The crew members were on board the Malaysian-flagged vessel MV Albedo when it was hijacked by Somali pirates from the Indian Ocean on November 26, 2010.

After long persuasion by the government as well as relevant International organisations, the seven Bangladeshis were released alive by their captors on the evening of June 6 this year.  The shipping minister said a copy of the probe report on the launch capsize will also be handed over to reporters, too.  He claimed that the launch that capsized in the Padma River could not be recovered due to inclement weather and strong current.  The reason behind the failure to recover the Pinak-6 launch was neither administrative nor technical, rather it was natural, he said.  Shajahan said action will be taken against those found guilty in connection with the launch capsize as per the recommendations of the probe panel. "No one will be spared."

The shipping ministry formed a six-member probe committee, headed by its joint secretary Nur-ur-Rahman, to investigate the launch capsize.
