Pirates loot 12 trawlers, abduct 46 fishermen

BARGUNA, July 9 (UNB): Pirates looted 12 fishing-trawlers and abducted 46 fishermen at sea from near Dubler Char in the Bay Sunday afternoon.
Local Trawler Owners' Association sources said a gang of armed pirates swooped on the 12 trawlers one after another and looted fish, nets, fuel and machinery worth about Tk 1.0 million, injuring 18 fishermen.
They also got away with four trawlers- FB Badsha, FB Sarder, FB Munshi and FB Ma- with 46 fishermen on board to realise ransom.
The injured fishermen were sent to health centres of Patharghata and coastal areas.
The pirates demanded Tk 50,000 against each trawler in ransom for freedom of the fishermen.
