Pirates loot cash, valuables in S’ganj

SIRAJGANJ, Oct 7 (UNB) : Armed pirates looted cash and other valuables from the passengers of a trawler on the Jamuna in Kazipur Upazila Saturday noon injuring seven.
Police said, the gang coming by a boat, stormed into the trawler in the mid-river on its way to Shimanto Bazar from Rupshar Chor, and looted cash and other valuables worth about Tk 0.2 million from the passengers at about 2:30pm.
The pirates, at one stage, beat some passengers mercilessly when they tried to resist them, leaving seven of them seriously injured. They later fled away with the booty.
Earlier, Police in a raid in remote chor area under Kazipur Upazila under Sirajganj arrested a ringleader of an inter-district dacoit gang along with his two accomplices on Friday night.
The arrested were identified as ringleader Saiful Islam (38), of Kazipur Upazila, Dulal Mia (32), of Rangpur, and Nabab Ali (35), of Jamalpur.
