Pirates loot fish, nets from 25 trawlers in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Sept 30 (UNB): Armed pirates looted fish and fishing nets worth Tk 2.0 million from twenty-five fishing trawlers in the Bay and coastal belt here Friday and Saturday leaving twenty-five fishermen injured.
The injured fishermen said the gang numbering 15 to 20 divided into few groups swooped on 15 trawlers while fishing on Friday night.
The bandits looted fish and fishing nets, and beat up some of the fishermen when they tried to resist them. Later, they hijacked FV Arif trawler, and abducted 13 fishermen at gunpoint for ransom of Tk 0.4 million.
On Saturday night the pirates again attacked 10 trawlers at Kochikhali and Narikelbaria coastal belt, and took away fish and nets.
Another report said, a shopkeeper was slaughtered at Nashuakhali Bazar in Mollarhat upazila Saturday midnight.
The dead was identified as Ismail Hossain (22), son of Alauddin Hossain of Nashuakhali village.
Police said, four to five terrorists asked Ismail to open the pharmacy at the dead of night for buying medicine. When he opened the shop they entered, and slaughtered him.
Police recovered the body Sunday morning, and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police said Ismail might have been killed following a land dispute. Police Super AKM Shahidur Rahman visited the spot.
