Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina urged Wednesday all to extend their support in implementing 'midday meal' programme in schools aiming to check dropout rate, reports UNB.
She urged all including the public representatives, school committees, guardians, teachers and financially solvent people to extend their support in implementing the programme in schools in their respective areas.
"If you all come forward, it won't be a problem for us to introduce 'midday meal' in all schools across the country," the PM made the appeal while inaugurating the 'National Primary Education Week-2015' organised by Primary and Mass Education Ministry at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
Chaired by Minister for Primary and Mass Education Mostafizur Rahman, the function was addressed, among others, by Secretary of the Ministry Kazi Akhter and Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Md Alamgir.
Sheikh Hasina said primary education is the main ladder of education and her government is implementing various pragmatic programmes to this end.
She mentioned that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman soon after the country's independence nationalised the primary education to create worthy citizens for building a modern and desired future of an independent nation.
"Bangabandhu took the country towards the first step of advancement in education sector through nationalising 36, 165 primary schools and services of 157,724 teachers," she told the function.
Sheikh Hasina warned BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami again Wednesday that her government would take even tougher steps if they do not refrain from destructive activities like blockade, killing and arson attacks.
"I would like to tell them (BNP-Jamaat) one thing, you must refrain from carrying out such activities (blockade, killing people and arson attacks), or else, we'll have to take even harsher actions for stopping these acts," she asserted.
She also said it is the duty of the government to provide security to the lives and property of the people of the country.
Hasina mentioned: "The hooligans of BNP-Jamaat-Shibir nexus are killing people by setting fire to passengers on board the buses and other vehicles. This is not politics, this is militant and terror acts, BNP-Jamaat has unleashed terror activities in the name of movement."
She requested the people of the country to resist these evil activities of BNP-Jamaat clique. "I'm urging all to resist these militancy and terrorism," she said.
Reiterating that Khaleda Zia's decision not to participate in the January 5, 2013 election was her own political mistake, Hasina questioned why the country, the nation and people should pay the price for her mistake. "It was not the responsibility of people. Then why are you killing people by setting fire to public buses?" she questioned.
The PM also mentioned that the BNP-Jamaat activists set fire to a bus early Wednesday and killed four children. "I don't have any word to express my condemnation, what is the logic behind this killing. What is the reason behind being angry with the general people, what is the fault of the mass people?"
