PM for more practice of culture, literature to meet hunger of mind

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Thursday put emphasis on more practice of culture to meet the hunger of the mind, report agencies.
Emphasising on practice of culture and literature, and also warning against the aggression of alien culture, the PM underscored the need for meeting 'hunger of mind' alongside 'hunger of belly' as practice of culture and literature provides scope for enriching mental faculties.
"Not merely hunger of belly, we'll also have to meet the hunger of mind. We'll have to give more emphasis on practice of culture… we've taken all our programmes accordingly," she said, adding that her party in its election manifesto had also given special importance to culture.
The PM made the observations in her introductory speech before the high officials of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and its different subordinate bodies at the Ministry's conference room at Secretariat in the city Thursday.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor gave the address of welcome while PMO Senior Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, Cultural Affairs Secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas and PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri were present on the occasion.
Highlighting her government's different steps to further flourish the culture, the PM said the government has ensured food security of people by increasing the production.
"By the grace of the Almighty Allah, there is no crisis of food at present. Now we have given attention to provide entertainment to the mind of the people meaning giving importance to the practice of culture," she said.
The PM said the aim of her government is to highlight the country's identity and entity before the world people. "That is why we have given importance to flourishing of culture which keeps the existence of the nation and grows the roots," she said.
Mentioning that the country's people are cultural-minded, Sheikh Hasina also stressed the need for conducting research side by side projecting the identity, culture and literature of Bangalee nationalism before the new generation through digital technology.
