PM, Modi inaugurate six community clinics in Sunamganj today

SYLHET, Mar 10: Six community clinics in remote areas of Sunamganj district will start functioning today (Monday).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi will jointly inaugurate the health centres through a video conference.

Officials of the district administration will join the video conference from the office of Deputy Commissioner, Sunamganj at 11:40 am.

Immediate past Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla on February 02, 2018 had laid foundation of the clinics in Chechan village under Chhatak, Bholaganj under Dharmapasha, Dalia under Doarabazar, Asanpur under Govindapur and Purararpar under Shulla upazilas.

Each of the clinics having modern facilities with solar power system has been established on eight decimals of land donated by locals.

Besides, there are 30 more clinics set up with the financial help of the Indian government in remote villages of five districts - Jamalpur, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria and Sherpur.

The Indian government provided Tk2.2 million for each and the Health Engineering Department of Bangladesh implemented the projects.

The clinics were handed over to the health officials concerned of the districts weeks ago.

Assistant High Commissioner of India Girish Chandra Pujari and officials of the Health Engineering Department visited the Chechan Community Clinic last week. Sources said healthcare providers will serve the locals in the clinics on the working days.

Besides, pregnant women will get treatment, including delivery facilities. Civil Surgeon of Sunamganj Ashutosh Dass told this correspondent that all preparations have been taken for the formal opening of the clinics.
