PM orders planned housing

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina directed the officials concerned of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works on Sunday to develop a proper housing system in all parts of the country, including the capital, following a 'Master Plan', report agencies.

She also asked them to ensure the highest enforcement of the existing laws, including the Bangladesh National Building Code, in construction of buildings.

The PM gave the directives while delivering her introductory speech at a meeting with officials of the ministry at the Secretariat.

"The government has been working to develop a planned housing system in the country and wants to make sure that no one remains homeless," she said.

She said the present government wants to develop livable towns and villages for next generation. "We hope that no people will remain without home," she added.

The PM also directed ministry officials to go for constructing two lakes in the city's Kuril flyover area quickly defying the pressure from all quarters.

"There's no scope for any compromise here," she said.

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain was present at the meeting along with his ministry's senior officials.

Sheikh Hasina said the housing projects both in public and private sectors should be equipped with all civic facilities and services, and those housing facilities should be developed under a master-plan.
