Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon journalists Friday to be watchful so that no obstacle was created to the government's work, reports BSS.
"You must make criticism of the government. But remain alert so that no impediment is created to doing the government's work and the country's reputation is undermined abroad," she said.
The Prime Minister was addressing an iftar party arranged by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here.
Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, DUJ President Altaf Mahmud and General Secretary Quddus Afrad also spoke on the occasion.
Terming newspapers as a mirror of the society, the Prime Minister said it was a reality that no society could be built without constructive criticism.
Following in the footsteps of Bangabandhu, she said, her government for the first time opened the door for the private sector and gave permission to launch private TV channels.
