Police arrest 12 Rohingya people, traffickers

COX'S BAZAR, Mar 21: A total of 10 illegal Rohingyas and two human traffickers were held in Lama upazila of Bandarban on Wednesday.

On suspicion, locals caught them from Line-Jirjiri area of the upazila in the morning and handed over to nearby Army camp.

Later, army officials handed over them to Lama thana. Finally, the law enforcers handed them over to Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp authority.

Officer in-charge (OC) of Lama thana Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter to this correspondent.

Arrested human trafficker Abu Siddiq and his accomplice were taking the Rohingyas from Lama to Myanmar with a promise to provide them jobs as day labourers, the OC said.

Arrested persons are Ayat Ullah (25), Jalil Ahmed (28), Shamsul Alam (26), Rahim Ullah (24), Sultan Ahmed (32), Abul Kalam (38), Hafez Yasin (23), Abdul Motaleb (20), Peer Mohammad (52) and Monir Ahmed (27).
