Police duty-bound to serve people : IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad said Wednesday police were duty bound to serve the people by maintaining law and order, tackling crime, reports BSS.
The IGP said this while inaugurating a two-day workshop on `Training on `Victims Support Service' at a city hotel with UNDP support.
Additional IGP (administration) and director of police reforms programme project Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura presided over the function. The seminar was addressed, among others, by AIG (training) Matiur Rahman, PRP programme manager from Austria Heubert Staberhoser and Professor Niranjana Sanyal of Kolkata University.
Pointing out that women and children are socially and economically becoming victims, the IGP said a help centre had been set up in Tejgaon in the capital to provide legal assistance to victim women and children. He also observed that those who were attending the 'victim support training programme' could assist in providing legal and medical assistance to the women and children.
The police chief also urged the people to come forward sincerely to help police in curbing the crimes.
A dozen of police officials at sub-inspector levels attended the workshop. Later 20 more sub-inspectors will be trained under the programme.
Police sources said in every police station one trained sub- inspector would be deputed to provide legal assistance to victim women and children.
