Police nab three over gang rape in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 23 (bdnews24.com): Gaibandha police have arrested three people in a case over the alleged gang rape of a girl who recently completed her JSC exams in Sadullahpur. Five people have been accused in the case, including the son of a local Jubo League leader.
The rape occurred on Friday evening in the Upazila's Noldanga Government Food Silo area, said Sadullahpur Police OC Borhan Uddin.
Locals detained the three after the incident and handed them over to police.
A case was filed against five suspects, including the three caught, at the local police station.
The suspects have been identified as Shohag Miah, 23, the son of Noldanga Union Awami Jubo League Convener Dudu Miah, Babu Miah, 22, Shariful Islam, 21, Rubel Miah, 22, and Khushu Miah, 23.
The victim has been sent to Gaibandha Modern Sadar Hospital for treatment and medical tests.
The girl had gone with her mother to Noldanga Bazar on Friday to buy clothes, OC Borhan Uddin said. The shopping over her mother told her to go home while she went to her father's house.
Shohag stopped her near the silo as she was going home alone, the OC said.
"The perpetrators grabbed her, covered her face with her scarf, took her to the nearby sugarcane field and took turns raping her.
Locals came running when they heard the girl's screams and managed to catch Shariful and Babu. Shohag was detained by locals from a store in the Noldanga Rail Gate area.
