FE Report
Police is yet to nab the real culprits who chopped a noted journalist Shahed Zahidi on the city's Road No. 27 at 11m on September 27 last.
Talking to the FE, Zahidi said a group of armed muggers chopped him when he denied to part with the cash and other valuables that he had with him.
Severely injured Zahidi (40) was rushed to the hospital where he got treatment for several days. He is now undergoing treatment at home, said his family members Sunday night.
"It was the night of holy Ramadan and I have bought dresses and other Eid items for my family members and for myself. I was going home in a rickshaw and when I was crossing the road, a group of muggers travelled by private car stopped the rickshaw and demanded all belongings with me. But, as I denied they chopped me on the spot," Zahidi said.
Victim Zahidi alleged that when he was attacked there were petrol police but they did not come to help him.
Even when the nearby people requested the police to help Zahidi, police told them to note the number of the car. After the incident the muggers left the scene by taking U-turn in front of the police, he pointed out.
Zahidi lodged a case with the Dhanmondi police station in this connection on September 29. The case No. is 77. But the police could not identify the culprits as yet, they said.
When asked the investigating officer (IO) of the case Motiur Rahman said he has been trying to nab the criminals who were involved in this incident.
"I have been trying my level best to nab the real culprits, but it was delayed due to Eid vacation," he said.
On the other hand, victim Zahidi also wrote to the secretary of the Home Affairs Ministry on October 6 urging him to take necessary steps in this connection.
