Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed called on President Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban Monday, when post-flood rehabilitation and food-rationing plans were discussed among other issues, reports UNB.
The President called for concentrated efforts to make sure that the people can lead a normal life.
"We have to ensure a normal lifestyle of the people through combined efforts," he said, expressing his satisfaction over the programmes undertaken by the government.
He laid emphasis on taking all necessary steps for keeping the prices of essentials within the reach of the common man during the holy month of Ramadan.
Iajuddin also asked for beginning the post-flood agricultural rehabilitation programme in full swing.
The CA apprised the President of different government programmes undertaken for relief distribution among the flood victims, post-flood rehabilitation plan, keeping the prices of essentials stable and introducing marketing operations under open market sale (OMS) and vulnerable group feeding (VGF) systems.
Fakhruddin said the government has taken massive programmes for agricultural rehabilitation in the affected areas through disbursing agri-loans and supplying seeds, fertilisers and other farming inputs.
The VGF programme starts from September 01 and continues for four months in the flood-hit areas, the head of interim government informed the President. Under the programme, some 3.0 million families would get food grain on VGF cards.
"The government is also starting OMS from September 01 for keeping the prices of essentials within the reach of the people. Under the OMS, a kilogram of rice will be sold at Tk 19," the CA informed the president.
Simultaneously, he said, BDR and Ansar-VDP also have taken initiative to sell essentials through 200 centres.
Apart from taking massive rehabilitation programmes, the government, with the assistance of the World Bank, also has undertaken a Tk 3.5 billion (350 crore) project in agricultural research sector.
The CA expressed his hope that people would see good impact of government's initiatives undertaken to keep the prices of essentials stable during the Ramadan.
Secretaries of the President and the CA offices concerned also present on the occasion.
