BENAPOLE, Mar 10 (UNB): Poverty-gripped parents have sold their 2-month old baby daughter for Tk 2,000.
Ismail Sikder, a day labourer, of Shibchandrapur village in Sharsha Upazila, admitted that he has sold the newborn baby Papya.
Father of 7 children - three sons and four daughters - Ismail said he could not feed them and carry the burden of his big family.
His wife Halima Khatun said that they were compelled to sell the small cultivable land and homestead. They now live in a thatched hut on the bank of a canal.
