Preliminary candidate list to be published today

322 nomination papers submitted for 23 central posts

The preliminary list of candidates for the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU) election is set to be published today (Wednesday), following the scrutiny of nomination papers.
According to the RUCSU Election Commission, the verification process that began on Monday is scheduled to conclude today. So far, four student panels have announced their participation in the polls.
On September 7, the final day for filing, a total of 322 nomination papers were submitted for 23 central union posts.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner of the RUCSU polls, Mostafa Kamal Akand, said the final tally of candidates will be known once the preliminary list is released.
Meanwhile, 603 nominations were submitted for 15 hall union posts across 17 residential halls, while 62 nominations were submitted for five student representative seats in the university senate.
For the top central positions, 20 candidates are competing for vice-president, 15 for general secretary, and 16 for assistant general secretary.
"We are working to ensure that the scrutiny process is flawless and transparent," Commissioner Mr Akand said.
He noted that a series of meetings with commission members and hall provosts have addressed campaign expenditure limits, electioneering methods, and the code of conduct.
As per the revised schedule, objections to candidacies will be heard on September 11, while nomination withdrawal will take place on September 13. The final list of candidates will be announced on September 14.
The long-awaited polls will be held on September 25, from 9:00am to 4:00pm, at the university's academic buildings. Results are expected the same day.
