A technical team has been assigned the task to prepare the draft model submission paper for collation and interpretation of data gathered from the Bay of Bengal through seismic and bathymetric surveys.
Official sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said this in the city Sunday, reports BSS.
The team, which has been working under the supervision of United Nations Convention of Law of the Seas (UNCLoS) wing of the MoFA, has been sent to a western country last month and it is expected to complete the assigned job by November next, sources said.
The team comprises officials from the MoFA, Bangladesh Navy, Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARSO), Geological Survey of Bangladesh and Petro Bangla.
MoFA, the sources said, has also recently undertaken a study to review its baseline which was promulgated in 1974 from depth contour basis that is the 0th fathom line to bring it in conformity with UNCLoS, 1982.
Such review or amendment of the baseline, would however, require the approval from the highest authority of the government.
Additional Foreign Secretary MAK Mahmood accompanied by some concerned officials of the government undertook a study on baseline in European country. The team returned home recently.
Meanwhile, the next round of the Bangladesh-Myanmar meeting on maritime boundary delimitation is expected to take place in the first week of next month in Yangon, sources said.
The additional foreign secretary is likely to lead the Bangladesh team in the meeting.
