President asks universities to adopt modern curricula for need-based education

President Iajuddin Ahmed Tuesday suggested to the universities to adopt contemporary and modern curricula for imparting need-based education to build a pool of skilled manpower for tapping the country's huge development potential, reports UNB.
"Bangladesh is a country of immense potential," he said and underscored the need for huge capable human resources to cope with the challenges of the 21st century.
"Educational Institutions, particularly universities, have vital role to play in building a competent and healthy nation by providing quality education to the students," he said in his address to the maiden convocation of Dhaka International University (DIU) at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
University Grants Commi-ssion Chairman Prof Nazrul Islam, chairman of the Board of Governors of DIU Dr SK Patwari and Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nurul Momen, among others, also addressed the function.
Iajuddin also called upon the students to demonstrate their moral duty and the highest degree of personal honesty and integrity in their professional arena.
The President advised the students to try to groom themselves as rational human beings and a useful member of society.
Terming global warming an alarming phenomenon for the developing countries like Bangladesh, the President said Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) impact assessments identify Bangladesh as one of the most 'susceptible countries' of the world to the negative impacts of climate change.
