President M Abdul Hamid Friday paid rich tributes to the memory of internationally reputed nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah, late husband of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on the occasion of his 6th death anniversary, reports BSS.
In a message on the eve of the day, Abdul Hamid recalled that Dr Wazed had made notable contributions to the field of atomic research during his lifetime. On February 16, 1942 Dr Wazed was born in the respected Miah family at Fatehpur village in Peerganj of Rangpur and as a talented scientist, he significantly contributed to the country's atomic research, he added.
The President recalled with gratitude that Dr Wazed played the role of a guardian to Bangabandhu family in an adverse situation staying abroad with the Father of the Nation's two daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana till 1981 after the assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members by the anti-liberation elements on August 15 in 1975.
