President, PM urges all to come forward for dev of autistic people

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday urged all local and foreign organisations, civil society and affluent people of society to come forward for the welfare of autistic people, reports BSS.
They made the call by issuing separate messages marking the 8th World Autism Day to be observed in the country as elsewhere in the globe Thursday focusing on measures required supporting growth in employment opportunities for people on the autism spectrum.
In his message, the President said the government is implementing various programme for overall development of autistic people. "But it is not only the government's task alone. Proactive participation of all is must in this regard," he said.
Terming this year's theme "Autism Sochetonota Theke Sokriyota, Ekivuto Samaj Gothon e Shuvo Barota (Activeness from Autism Awareness, Good Message in Building Inclusive Society) as significant, the President hoped that the theme will play important role in creating mass awareness about care, nursing and training of autistic children.
In her message, the Prime Minister greeted all adults, children and adolescents suffering from autism and other physical disabilities in the country as elsewhere across the world on the occasion.
"I believe the autistic children will create huge opportunities for the society and the country, if they are brought up with proper care," she said.
Saima to address UN panel discussion
Saima Wazed Hossain, Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism in Bangladesh, will address an UN panel discussion in New York on Thursday, marking the World Autism Day, reports UNB.
Saima, daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a renowned child psychologist, will speak at the panel titled 'Science, Collaboration and Answers for the Global Autism Community', according to a press release of Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Under Secretary General for communication and public information Cristina Gallach will address the opening session of the discussion titled 'Employment: The Autism Advantage' in Thursday morning.
The event will focus on measures required to support growth in employment opportunities for people on the autism spectrum.
