President urges NRBs to live peacefully

NEW YORK, June 20 (BSS): President Abdul Hamid urged Thursday the non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs), irrespective of all opinions, to live abroad peacefully through tolerating differences of opinion.
The President was addressing a reception accorded to him by Kishoreganj District Association, USA at Gulshan Terrace near Jackson Heights, the NRB populated area in New York.
President Hamid said to show tolerance to other opinions is a prerequisite for advancement of democracy. "The political culture in Kishoreganj district is different from other parts of the country as political violence never occurred in the district," the President said.
He said he always did politics in Kishoreganj district by keeping good relations with opposition. "In Kishoreganj, there are family to family relations among all political parties," he said.
The President thanked the Kishoreganj district association in USA for giving him the reception. "I became President for most of the contribution from the Kishoreganj inhabitants," he said.
The President sought best wishes from the NRBs, hailing from Kishoreganj district, so that he can perform his duty properly with dignity as the President.
Noting that President's authority is limited under the parliamentary form of democracy, President Hamid said even after that he always tries to carry out development of the Kishoreganj district.
"The remote haor areas of Kishoreganj district remain no more backward like previous time. Now the areas are developing in a faster pace," he said.
Association president Engineer M Shafiq Khan, former president Fazlul Huq, general secretary Shahidul Karim Khan, adviser Babu Dajan Sarkar, Mofizur Rahman, Awal Siddiquie, Osman Ghoni and organising secretary Shafiq khan spoke, among others, on the occasion.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid asked officials of Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations to work more cautiously during performing their duties for protecting the image of Bangladesh in front of the world community.
"You all keep in mind that each of you is the ambassador of Bangladesh and people from around the world are observing you here," he said during his visit to the office of Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations here.
President Hamid visited the office and exchanged views with the officials at Bangabandhu Auditorium inside the office of Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations.
Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Dr AK Abdul Momen gave welcome speech and briefed the President about various activities of the mission in the UN.
