President Abdul Hamid called for making highest effort Saturday to bring home the six condemned fugitive killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to execute their death sentence, reports UNB.
The President said the trial of the cruel killing of Father of the nation and most of his family members was completed in 2010 after long 35 years.
"The nation is almost free from stigma. Highest efforts have to be put to bring back the fugitive killers for implementing the verdict," he said.
He said there is no place for the killers in the world.
The appellate division of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of 12 killers on November 19, 2009 completing the trial of Bangabandhu's assassination on August 15, 1975.
Five of the convicts, Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Bazlul Huda, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and Mohiuddin Ahmed, were executed in Dhaka Central Jail on January 27 in 2010.
Six killers have remained fugitives abroad. They are: Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Shariful Haque Dalim, Nur Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury, Abdul Mazed and Moslehuddin Khan.
Another fugitive convict Aziz Pasha died in 2001 in Zimbabwe.
The President was addressing a discussion titled " Bangabandhu and Bangladesh" organized by Gopalganj Zilla Samity at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city marking the National Mourning Day.
President Hamid said the dream of Bangabandhu was to build a Golden Bangla.
"Bangabandhu upheld non-communal spirit and flourishing of democracy in heart and soul," he said.
The President said "Our duty will be to fulfill the dream of Bangabandhu of establishing a happy and prosperous country by completing his unfinished tasks."
Abdul Hamid said the purpose of the killers was not only to kill a statesman but also to erase the ideals of the Liberation War and to reestablish the defeated forces.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, following the spirit of her father, is trying her best to make the poor happy.
Referring to Sheikh Hasina's Vision-2021 and Vision 2041, the President said "We have to continue our concerted effort to implement the programmes."
