Price of books this year at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair will remain almost same as last year thanks to the stable price of printing materials, the publishers claimed.
The participating publishing houses said that this year buyers could have their interested books from the event only paying last year's price and just slightly increased transportation cost.
"Regrettably, increased transportation and other related expenditures of the publishing materials will be added with last year price" Bangladesh Academic and Creative Publishers' Association (BACPA) President Osman Gani said.
The BACPA President, also owner of Agami Prokashoni said that the month-long book festival is likely to witness fewer titles compared to last year as the publishers had inadequate preparation.
"Although two days have passed since the book festival started but the authorities are yet to resolve the sanitation problem, causing serious hazard for the visitors and the staffs", said Khairul Hasan Saju of the Dibboprokas.
"It's true that the publishers got necessary space to setup their stalls at the venue, but the fair clearly has been divided into two separate entities, causing low attendance of the visitors at the publishers' venue", he said.
He also strongly recommended that the authorities concerned allow all the participating houses including government and non-government agencies at the same venue, Udyan, where the authorities could easily accommodate all.
This year, the main academy premise has been allotted for the government and non-government institutions while the Suhrawardy Udyan is for the mainstream publishers.
There was very little queue before the entrances of the fair venue in the last two days. Some publishers were seen passing their lazy time because of the low presence of the book lovers.
Like the previous years, book lovers and visitors will get 25 per cent discount on the sales of the publishers' books while the buyers will get 30 per cent money off on the books published by the Bangla Academy
The book fair will remain open from 3:000pm to 9:00pm during the working days-Saturday to Thursday-and on Friday from 11:00am to 9:00pm while on the February 21, International Mother Language Day, will remain open from 8:00am to 9:00 pm.
