Prof Iftekhar Chy made CU VC

CHITTAGONG, Jun 5: Pro-vice chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury has been appointed Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University.

President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the University Advocate Abdul Hamid appointed him as Vice-Chancellor on Tuesday, said a press release signed by deputy secretary (university-2) of the Ministry of Education Laila Arjumand Banu.

Mr Chowdhury will join the new post on June 15, the press release added. Prof Iftekhar has replaced Prof Anwarul Azim Arif, the outgoing VC.

Prof Iftekhar obtained his Masters from Sociology in 1981 from Chittagong University and joined the varsity as lecturer in 1982. He obtained PhD degree from Sukura University, Japan in 1988 and was promoted to the post of professor in 1996. He has been working as pro-vice chancellor of Chittagong University since May 30, 2013.

Mr Chowdhury was also pro-vice chancellor of the Premier University run by Chittagong City Corporation.
