The French Development Agency (FDA) is organising a weeklong series of events on climate change starting from today (Saturday) focusing on the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in Paris in December next.
Supported by Alliance Française in Dhaka and the Embassy of France in Bangladesh, the programmes include photo exhibition, film screening and a number of roundtable meetings with participation of government bureaucrats, experts and academicians.
The opening event of the weeklong programme beginning from May 16 styled 'Bridging Climate Change and Development' will be inaugurated by French Ambassador in Bangladesh Sophie Aubert.
This is part of the programme on United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP 21, which is going to be held in France in December this year, according to a press release issued by the French embassy.
At the COP 17 in South Africa in 2011, 194 countries agreed to establish a binding international climate action agreement and that negotiation is scheduled to be completed at the COP 21.
The conference is important because, whatever agreement is established, it will act as a blueprint and catalyst for future international climate action.
