Twelve protestors were picked up by police on charges of vandalising the Public Service Commission (PSC) office Tuesday as the fracas over the crisis-ridden 27th BCS examination continued, reports UNB.
These 12 are among those who qualified in the first round of the 27th BCS examination but couldn't get through the second round-and they were dropped from the government job list.
Witnesses and police said the qualifiers of the first round started assembling in froat of the PSC office since morning and went on the rampage at about 10:00 am, demanding that the BCS results be reversed and PSC Chairman Dr Sa'adat Hussain sacked.
The demonstrators stoned and damaged windowpanes of the PSC office, the sources said.
"At one stage of the demonstration, the protestors staged sit-in after locking its collapsible gate and confining its employees inside for almost four hours," says a spot account of the trouble.
On information, police rushed in at about 12:40 pm but failed to control the demonstrators. Then riot police came in and picked up some of the protestors onto the police van.
In protest against the aggressive police action, others stepped into the police van in a defiant move to court arrest.
Among the arrested persons, five were relatives of some of those qualifiers and two others were unidentified. They were taken to Kafrul police station where a case was filed against them.
