Gana Odhikar Sangram Committee on Friday demanded that the government bring human traffickers to book and rescue fortune seekers from the sea immediately.
They also stressed the need for repatriation of boat people and paying compensation to trafficking victims. Their other demands include formation of national and international joint commissions to bring the culprits to book.
The committee, a platform of 13 organisations, made the demands at a rally held in front of the National Press Club in the city.
Nijam Uddin Swapan, convener of the committee, Masud Khan, convener of Jatiya Ganatantrik Ganamancha, Rubel Sikder, organising secretary of Sramojibi Sangha, and Jakaria Animesh, organising secretary of Nirban Sangskritik Sangha, among others, spoke at the rally.
