Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said Tuesday the quality of education in the country is not quite up to the mark although there has been some improvement, reports UNB.
Addressing a discussion meeting on the strategies for improving the quality of education at the university level, the minister noted that it is the first challenge for the education ministry to improve the quality of higher education.
The Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) organised the discussion meeting at a city hotel.
Nahid said the government will not let any private university to operate unless they comply with the existing laws for the sector.
He noted that a few among the 79 private universities are skirting around the laws, but they move to the court whenever legal steps are taken against them.
The education minister warned that such errant private universities will not be able to keep on operating in the long run.
Speaking on the occasion, UGC chairman AK Azad Chowdhury also echoed the minister by saying the errant universities are managing to remain operational by securing stay orders from the court whenever the UGC takes any legal action.
