RAB DG warns of action for demotivating voters

FE REPORT
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will take stern action if anyone obstructs voters from exercising their democratic rights to cast votes in today's national election.
RAB Director General M Khurshid Hossain made the warning at a press briefing on Saturday after inspecting security measures taken in and around the polling centres in the capital.
"Casting vote is people's democratic rights. It's illegal to obstruct voters from exercising their voting rights," he said.
"We have an excellent coordination (among other law enforcement agencies). We hope we will be able to hold the polls in a fair and peaceful manner," Mr Khurshid added.
While visiting several polling centres in the capital, he observed that the security measures undertaken there are sufficient.
"Voters get an opportunity of exercising voting rights after every five years. We're prepared to assist people in casting their votes," the RAB chief maintained.
RAB personnel are carrying out regular patrols as a striking force across the country, he said, adding that 700 RAB mobile teams were patrolling on the occasion of the 12th parliamentary elections.
"RAB plain-clothes personnel are continuously maintaining their surveillance. Our cyber patrolling is also working to prevent different types of rumours about the polls."
"Besides this, we have also dog and bomb squads. Our helicopters will remain standby in case of emergency needs," Mr Khurshid continued.
"If anyone tries and resists voters from casting their votes, law enforcers will deal with them with an iron hand," he said with a note of warning.
