RAB rescues infant girl abducted from Azimpur during robbery, woman held

The eight-month-old infant, who was abducted during a robbery at a house in Dhaka's Azimpur area on Friday, has been rescued by the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from the capital's Mohammadpur area, reports UNB.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab conducted a drive in Mohammadpur Adabor area and rescued the child early Saturday, said Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous, director of Rab (Law and media).
The elite force also arrested Fatema Akter Shapla for her suspected involvement in the abduction, he said while speaking at a press briefing held at Karwan Bazar media centre.
Munim Ferdous said, Fatema was the ringleader of a kidnapping gang and the mother of the child work as a stenographer of the Home Ministry.
She met Fatema while going home by bus and developed a relationship.
On Friday, Fatema gave sedative tablets to the infant after keeping her hostage with the help of two more people.
They also looted valuables from the house including four tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 1.70 lakh cash.
After kidnapping the girl, Fatema kept the baby at Adabor Nabinagar Housing from where the elite force rescued the girl.
Earlier on Friday, robbers entered Medical Staff Quarters of Azimpur area and looted valuables including cash money from the house.
Police said a woman had moved into the flat of the girl's mother as a sublet tenant the previous day.
On Friday morning, two men, posing as the woman's brothers, arrived and looted valuables including Tk 1.5 lakh in cash and four tolas of gold ornaments from the house.
