A Dhaka court granted bail on Thursday to Bangladesh Railway senior sub-assistant engineer Jahangir Alam in a case for the death of Jihad inside a 600-foot abandoned shaft in the capital's Shahjahanpur area last year, reports UNB.
Jahangir Alam surrendered and sought bail at the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ashoke Kumar Dutt around 11am.
After the hearing, the court granted the bail in affidavit of Tk 5,000 bond.
On April 7, police submitted charge sheet against two people-Bangladesh Railway contractor and owner of AR Traders Abdus Salam and railway senior sub-assistant engineer Jahangir Alam.
Inspector Abu Jafar of Shahjahanpur Police Station, also the investigating officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
On December 27, 2014, the four-year old boy, Jihad, died inside a 600-foot abandoned shaft of a water pump at Shahjahanpur Railway Colony.
On December 28, his body was pulled out from the shaft 23 hours after he had slipped into it.
Later, Jihad's father, Nasir Fakir, filed a case against Abdus Salam and Jahangir Alam on charges of negligence of duty.
On March 8, a Dhaka court sent Abdus Salam to jail in the case rejecting his bail petition.
