Rains disrupt public life in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, July 24: Day-long intermittent rainfall disrupted public life today and low lying areas in the port city went under water.

Some 113.8 mm rainfall has been recorded in 24 hours until 9:00 am on Friday and 38.4 mm rainfall was recorded in only three hours from 6:00 am to 9:00 am on the day, the Met office at Patenga said.

Muradpur, Khaja Road, Bahaddarhat, Bakolia, Boubazar, Agrabad, Pahartali, Chaktai, Miakhan Nagar, Nasirabad, Baizid, Masterpool, Rajakhali, Chhota Pool, Halishahar, CDA and Baropool areas in the city have been inundated.

Some houses and business establishments at Miakhan Nagar and Masterpool areas have gone under knee-deep water.

The rain water coupled with high tide inundated the low-lying areas. The traffic in the city was lean and hundreds of families were confined in the houses.
