RAJSHAHI, July 7: Leaders of Rajshahi Bus-truck Owners and Labourers Oikya Parishad at a press conference held at the office of Rajshahi Sarak Paribahan Group this noon said they would start transport strike if the plying of illegal vehicles on roads and highways is not stopped immediately.
The leaders warned State Minister of Foreign Affairs Shariar Alam and MP Ayenuddin saying that since it was a matter of their 'bread and wage,' they would not consider who were the minister and the MP; rather they would start an all-out transport strike unless their demand is met.
Sources said Shariar Alam and Ayenuddin advocated for resumption of movement of illegal mechanised vehicles called Bhutbhut, Nasiman and Kariman.
General Secretary of Rajshahi District Motor Sramik Union Mahtab Chowdhury in the press conference said the local administration had stopped movement of illegal mechanised vehicles on highways and also sealed off the workshops of making and repairing of those vehicles recently. As a result, movement of those illegal vehicles was also stopped.
