The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) will build the country's first-ever multi-storied 'green' building aimed at meeting office space scarcity of the city development authority and make it more accessible to people by moving from the present location.
The proposed superior category green office building will have 31 floors with 2,591 sqm office space on each floor, a Housing Ministry official said.
The project cost has been estimated at Tk 8.09 billion which will be the Rajuk's own fund. The implementation time will be between 2014 and 2020.
Sources said, there is unused land of 2.088 acres of the Rajuk at Mohakhali in the city where the proposed building will be constructed.
Out of the total 93,005 sqm office space on 31 floors, the Rajuk will use 32,500 sqm and rent out the remaining space of 47,821 sqm to other organisations.
The expected income from the rented office space will be Tk 750 million per year, the official added.
There will be parking facilities for 500 cars in three basement floors. The energy-efficient 'green' building will have solar power generation system, water treatment plant and other environment friendly amenities, sources said.
The Rajuk has submitted the project proposal to the Housing Ministry on July 24. It has now been sent to the Finance Division. An inter-ministerial meeting will soon be held with the Housing Secretary in the chair for the final approval of the proposal.
Talking to the FE, Rajuk chief engineer Emdadul Islam said it will be a landmark building in the country. When Mr Madani built the present Rajuk building, it was a landmark building at that time too.
He said the Rajuk head office will be moved to a more central location as the city has expanded enormously over the years.
Regarding the manpower of the Rajuk, Mr Islam said at present there are about 1,200 manpower but the new approved organogram has 1,980 manpower. The organogram will be bigger in the coming days.
Sources said globally 'green' building is a new approach for developing sustainable structure. The project will set an example to the construction industry and will encourage other public and private developers to follow this international standard and reduce its impact to environment.
