Re-excavation of Kapatakkhya begins in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, Aug 24 (BSS): The Kapatakkhya river re- excavation work to ensure navigability of the river and address the waterlogging problem in Tala Upazila in the district through volunteer labour by the local people began Thursday.
Chairman of Sarulia union parisad Mohammad Motiur Rahman inaugurated the river re-excavating work at a simple ceremony at Baokhola area in Islamkathi union in Tala upazila.
More than 3,000 male and female labourers have been giving their labour voluntarily to remove the silt from the river across Baokhola point to Uttar Sarasa in the upazila. Besides, different illegal structures across the banks of the river have also been demolished.
Earlier, a meeting of public representatives, elite, officials of concerned government bodies and representatives of non-government organisations, with deputy commissioner of the district in the chair, took several decisions including re-excavation of the river and demolish illegal structures across the banks of the river to ensure its navigability and solve waterlogging problem.
