FE REPORT
The city's first metro rail received the highest 91,588 passengers on Sunday, the first working day after Eid-ul-Azha vacation, since the start of its Uttara-Agargaon operation on December 29.
According to Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) company secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf, the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) line-06 receives 60,000-70,000 passengers daily.
Some 54,205 passengers availed the MRT after the service resumed following weekly and Eid holidays last Friday and Saturday, he told the FE.
Meanwhile, the DMTCL has decided to operate two more trains from Agargaon from next Saturday to facilitate Uttara North station-bound passengers for 30 minutes after 8:00 pm due to increased demand for trains.
The first part of MRT-06 has been operating from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm since May 31 after increasing the number of trains and changed timings from the inaugural schedule of four hours only.
"As two sets of trains go back to Uttara Diabari depot from Agargaon as non-revenue trains after the end of the service, it will be converted as revenue ones by taking passengers to meet their demand," said an official.
Deputy project director (public relations) Tarafder Mahmudur Rahman in a notification said two trains would be operated at 8:15 pm and 8:30 pm from Agargaon touching all stations.
