Police issued on Friday a red alert across the country to hunt down former officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, Shah Alam, who escaped from custody at the police station on Thursday.
A high police official at the Police Headquarters said they have taken measures including issuing red alert to arrest former OC Shah Alam.
He also said police have filed a case against the former officer-in-charge (Shah Alam).
Earlier Shah Alam was arrested on Wednesday in a case filed against him over his alleged involvement in killing students and people during the July-August mass uprising against former autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina.
After arrest, he was kept at the current OC's room at Uttara East Police Station from where he absconded on Thursday.
A police official at Uttara East Police Station said police, army and Rapid Action Battalion members were working to arrest Shah Alam by using information technology. He also said they were hopeful about apprehending Shah Alam soon.
Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said a case was filed against Shah Alam on September 2 last year for his alleged involvement in killing students and people during the July-August anti-discrimination student movement.
He was supposed to appear before a court on Thursday but he escaped from the current OC's room at Uttara East Police Station at noon.
The sacked OC, Shah Alam, joined at Uttara East Police Station on August 1, 2024 during the tumultuous political situation in the country against the backdrop of anti-Sheikh Hasina movement waged by students and masses.
