Reforms being done to rectify inherited structural flaws

Finance adviser says stakeholders consulted so next govt cannot sidetrack restructuring

The interim government keeps consulting various groups in conducting reforms so that the next government cannot denigrate these reform initiatives, Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said Tuesday.
Speaking as the chief guest at ERF-Nagad Best Reporting Award 2023 at a city hotel, he said they were engaged in doing many reforms to overcome many inherited structural problems.
They may not be able to execute all the reform works but they keep engaging in talks with various stakeholders so that whoever comes to power democratically cannot refuse the reforms in coming days.
He urges the reporters to do constructive criticism showing possible policy action through which recurrence of the mistakes can be avoided.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur said that they wanted to make Nagad stronger further. That's why they restructured its board and appointed qualified professionals.
"We want to see Nagar such an entity where investors from local and global fields feel comfortable to put in their money," he said.
A total of 19 reporters in 17 categories were awarded this time.
In capital-market category, Salah Uddin Mahmud, staff reporter of The Business Standard, received the award.
Agriculture and food security award went to Arifur Rahman, senior reporter of Prothom Alo.
Bank and insurance prize was shared by MD Shofiqul Islam, senior reporter of Dhaka Post, and Sajjadur Rahman, deputy editor of The Business Standard.
Doulot Akter Mala, special correspondent of The Financial Express, and Tauhid Hossain Papon, senior reporter of Jamuna Television, were awarded in recognition of their digital-economy reporting.
Investigative-reporting award was shared by Obaidillah Rony, special correspondent of Daily Samakal, and Sadrul Hossain, special correspondent of UNB.
Ahsan Habib Rasel, senior reporter of The Daily Star, and Babu Kamruzzaman, special correspondent of News24 television, bagged the award for private sector.
Objective-economy award went to Rajib Ahmed, deputy head of reporting (Online) of Prothom Alo, Iqbal Ahsan, special correspondent of Channel 24, and MD Ismail Ali, Executive Editor of Sharebiz.
Macroeconomy award was shared by Fakhrul Islam Harun, special correspondent of Prothom Alo, and Jebun Nesa Alo, special correspondent of The Business Standard.
Two reporters were jointly awarded in revenue-collection category. They are Mohammad Jahangir Shah Kajol, special correspondent of Prothom Alo, and Ziadul Islam, senior reporter of Amader Somoy.
Another two reporters were jointly honoured in special-mention category: Razu Ahmed, news editor of The Daily Kalbela and Sushanta K Sinha, special correspondent of Ekattor TV.
Administrator of Nagad Mohammad Badiuzzaman Dider, chairman of Nagad board K.A.S Murshid, ERF president Refayet Yullah Mridha and its general secretary Abul Kashem also spoke at the ceremony.
