Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday urged all concerned to refrain from digging out roads for utility purposes without its prior permission during the month of Ramadan to reduce the plights of city dwellers.
"If any company/organisation creates interruption to vehicular movement in the capital by breaching the conditions of roads digging then lawful measures will be taken against the responsible organisation and their license will be cancelled," said the DMP in a mass circular.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali signed the document.
The mass circular also urged the concerned organisation/contractors to carry out roads repairing works including digging during the night but not in day time.
The DMP has issued some directives on the issue that include: strict prohibition of road digging in the city from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, mandatory opening of the roads for vehicular movement during the mornings after works, completion of the works within the stipulated time determined earlier, using traffic signal lights during roads repairing and development works, and appointing the maximum number of workers and technicians to save time.
The DMP sought cooperation from all concerned in the issue.
