Registered workers to go to Malaysia in next 2 yrs

Minister for Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Engr Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain Tuesday said that workers who registered their names through Union Information Centres (UICs) would be able to go to Malaysia by the next two years, reports BSS.

"Some 2,300 registered workers among the total 1.45 million went to Malaysia in the last one and a half years," he said while replying to a question of lawmaker Mostafa Lutfullah in parliament.

In this connection, he said the registered workers are now going to Malaysia with government visas through spending Tk 27,000 instead of Tk 33,000 at the initial stage.

Responding to a supplementary from treasury bench member Wares Hossain Belal, the Minister informed the House that the government has taken necessary measurers to unveil the mystery of passport burglary in Malaysia.

"The ministry of foreign affairs has formed a committee to investigate the matter and recovery of the stolen passports," he added.

Regretting the incident, he said the government was worried about the passport thievery. He wondered how the passports would be used as those have no relations with immigration matter.

Responding to the main questioner Chhobi Biswas of treasury bench, Mosharraf said that the government has taken steps to send Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia at a minimum expenditure.

Under the process, he said the names of the workers are registered through the UICs across the country in a transparent way by using modern technology.
