A four-day summer fair of the real estate sector began in the city Tuesday with the expectation to get more buyers in view of somewhat 'stable' political environment in the country.
Housing and Public Works minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the 'REHAB Summer Fair-2015' as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) organised the fair.
About 100 real estate and 24 building materials companies and financial institutions are participating in the fair, officials said.
The fair will remain open for general visitors from 10am to 9.00pm with an entry fee of Tk 50.
Presided over by REHAB president Alamgir Shamsul Alamin, the opening ceremony was also addressed, among others, by its senior vice president and REHAB fair standing committee chairman Rabiul Haque and REHAB general secretary Md. Wahiduzzaman.
Mr Mosharraf Hossain urged the authorities concerned to take measures to give loans to apartment buyers at single-digit interest for 20-30 years for investment in the real estate sector.
The country is now in a stable situation, recovering from fallout of recent petrol-bomb politics, he said.
Citing the Indian Prime Minister's recent speech agreeing with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's stance of 'zero tolerance' to terrorism, Mr Hossain said the politics of petrol bombs will end in future.
Praising some measures in the proposed budget for the sector, the REHAB president sought some more incentives.
Organisers are hoping that the fair will create a bridge between real estate companies and apartment buyers.
